THE COACHELLA VALLEY COLLABORATIVE SERVICES TEAM
Our special Collaborative Divorce and Family Team is comprised of the following individuals, together with other professionals depending upon your family's needs.
MARVIN CHAPMAN, M.S., C.F.C., Psy.D
Marvin recognized his passion for aiding people in crisis when he began his career as an Army medivac helicopter pilot and emergency medical technician. Upon being honorably discharged from the Army, Marvin's experienced a divorce and a custodial battle. This experience moved Marvin to go back to school and become a therapist specializing in family reorganization issues. Upon completing his education, Marvin worked within the family court system as a family mediator with the Mediation and Conciliation Court Services, Superior Court of California, County of Los Angeles. Therefore, he has first hand knowledge of how the family court system works and its requirements.
Marvin was also instrumental in establishing and ensuring the growth of United Fathers of America, a three time award winning nonprofit organization established in 1976. Having worked with thousands of parents both inside and outside of the family court system, Marvin understands their confusion and frustration. In 1986, Marvin was appointed to the California Senate Task Force on Family Equity, a task force set up by the California legislature to review and make legislative recommendations relating to family court. Marvin was appointed to this committee to represent the concerns of noncustodial parents.
In 2001, the Orange County District Attorney, Family Support Division, selected Marvin to present the noncustodial parent perspective during their customer service training program. In 2001 and 2002, and again in 2004, Marvin's work at United Fathers of America was recognized by receipt of Community Service Awards from Disneyland Resort. The 2004 award was the prestigious Jack B. Lindquist Award. Marvin's passion was reignited in 2004 when he became involved with the emerging Collaborative Divorce movement. He saw this new paradigm as a vehicle to accomplish his goal of working for a viable alternative to the historically inefficient and archaic adversarial family court process.
Upon completing his specialized Collaborative Divorce coach training, Marvin became one of the first male Collaborative Divorce coaches in Southern California. He is now a part of several Collaborative Divorce practice groups throughout Southern California. His reignited passion culminated in Marvin completing his doctorate in forensic psychology (application of psychology to legal matters). With over 30 years of experience, Marvin has been involved in thousands of cases and has developed a working relationship with the Court Facilitator's Office, Legal Aid Society, Department of Social Services, Department of Child Support Services, private attorneys, evaluators, and many others.
Marvin considers it an honor and a privilege to use his acquired knowledge and years of experience to assist restructuring and reorganizing families. The family is the foundation of a nation, helping families is Marvin's passion.

BEVERLY JEWELL, M.A., R.P.C., N.C.C.,
Marriage Counselor/Divorce Coach
Bev has been working in the field of counseling since 1995, helping individuals and couples lead more fulfilling lives. This often includes mending breaks in trust and communication, resolving conflict and navigating through life's transitions.
Her specialty is working to empower women as individuals of any age, whether they are currently in a relationship or not. Too often, women lose their sense of themselves when they get into a relationship and become wives and mothers. This then becomes their identity instead of a "role" they fill.
When a crisis or natural transition takes place - such as children leaving home, dealing with aging parents, a mid-life crisis, an affair, retirement, divorce - women often have a difficult time getting back to a place of inner strength, which is needed, to get through these difficult times.
During a divorce, Bev's goal is to help families get through the process in a respectful, amicable way, while staying out of court. As a coach, she emphasizes communication skills, conflict resolution and phase of life transition. This helps clients manage their anxiety in stressful situations, make clear informed decisions, build on inner strength, and begin to create a new life for themselves. When there are children, she helps develop a co parenting plan so their children can continue to thrive with the love and support of both parents. She is extremely effective in bringing organization, structure, and insight to help keep the case moving forward.
Bev's focus areas include:
- Communication Skills
- Mediation / Conflict Resolution
- Phase of Life Transitions
- Divorce Coaching
- Case Management
- Co-Parenting Skills
- Divorce Recovery
- And, Much Empathy!
Her educational background includes:
- BA in Counseling and Psychology 1990
- MA in Marriage and Family Therapy 1995
- Basic and Advanced Mediation Training
-
